Amanda Ashley, also known as ‘Miss Moth’ is a traditional sign painter and gold leaf gilder and has owned and operated this creative business for six years.

Amanda has always been drawn to the arts and excelled throughout her early education in both art and theatre. In 2010 she graduated from CSU Chico with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. After spending several years in the retail merchandising industry, Amanda eventually found her way back to the creative arts world in 2016. Everything changed for Amanda when she began dabbling in calligraphy, it was then that she found her true calling. Calligraphy ultimately led her to traditional sign painting, which then lead her to gold leaf gilding. Her deep curiosity for that trade then took her to Oslo Norway where she completed a 2-month understudy of sign painting and gold leaf gilding.

Shortly after returning from Norway, Amanda landed the job of a lifetime! Two Nevada County local and historical hotels, The National Exchange Hotel and the Holbrooke Hotel commissioned her to a full floor to ceiling hand painted branding project as well as a window to mirror gold leaf signage.

Last year Amanda was awarded the Dr. Leland and Sally Lewis Award for her part in a large collaboration project which was led by Sarah Coleman and included the works of Miles Toland and Brianna French. Her work on this Historical Nevada Theatre project which included the front foyer and building front are additional high points of her work to this point.

Some of Amandas recent work includes a collaborative abstract art collection with Julie Elin and Julianne Yates which was displayed at Kitkitdizzi in Downtown Nevada City. As well as a collaborative project with Brianna French, creating a two-panel glass piece as part of the ‘Visibility Through the Arts Program’ for the Nisenan Rancheria as their gallery window display.

Much of Amandas creative work is displayed throughout Nevada County and the Bay Area. Her work can also be seen throughout the US, reaching as Far East as Richmond, VA and as far North as Seattle, WA. She has also assisted top level artists on large scale murals for both Google and Microsoft.

Amanda looks forward to more large scale projects in the future in the way of signs, murals and branding projects.
